I’m a normal college student girl, no boyfriend just friends. One time, Daiki, my bestfriend introduced me to his new friends on his course. I met Hikaru, Kota and Yuya when we went out to watch movie in a mall.
“Guys, this is my bestfriend. These are my senpai in our department” Daiki introduced me.
“Yabu Kota desu, so you’re a senior too?” he held is hand
“Yeah” I shook his hand
“Domo, Takaki Yuya”
“Domo” I just nod
“Hikaru Yaotome desu~” he grabbed my right hand and shook it smiling sheepishly.
“Ah, domo” I just blink because I’m not used to persons who are feeling close at first meeting.
“Kei-chan, introduce yourself” Daiki elbowed me.
“Ah… ahm… Inoo Kei desu” I scratch my head. I’m not really used to introducing myself though. They smiled at me but I looked away.
“So what should we watch?” Daiki asked while eating popcorn as we look at the movie line up.
“Ahm, Kei which one you like?” Hikaru asked me while he stood beside me. I feel awkward of him being too close because I’m really not into boys but I have crushes too!
“Ah… eto… How about Cinderella?” I pointed at the poster.
“That’s so cute of you~” Hikaru teased me and playfully elbowed me.
“Hikaru, it’s a horror movie” Kota commented and Hikaru looked at him then to the poster.
“H-orror? Maji ka? Uso!” Hikaru’s eyes widened.
“Yup! It’s a Korean horror movie, haven’t you seen the trailer yet?” Daiki explained
“How can they turn Cinderella into horror?” Yuya asked
“Uhm… it’s just the title but the story is totally different” I answered and Yuya nodded in realization.
“Guys, the movie’s gonna start in 5 minutes. We should buy tickets now!” I excitedly drag them towards the counter. I was about to take my coin purse (I don’t use wallets, it’s too big for my pocket so I always fold my bills to fit in my coin purse. And it’s easy to take out money) when Hikaru told me, “No need for that, it’s on me”. I just nodded and became shy.
Daiki was sitting on my right while there’s an empty seat on my left. Hikaru came late because he said he forgot to buy something. The movie was about to start when someone sat on my left.
“Did I make it?” the guy asked, I nod without looking at him. He put a paper bag on my lap so I looked at him. It was Hikaru.
“Those are savory barbecue-flavored fries, hope you like it” he smiled showing his cute teeth.
“A-rigatou” I bowed lightly and went back to the screen.
During the movie, we could hear girls screaming around us whenever a scary scene surprised them. I just sigh.
“You’re not scared?” he asked me
“It’s not really scary for a horror-lover like me. I already watched so~ many horror films and this is not into the extreme level yet” I commented after I let out a chuckle.
“Woah~ So you like horror, huh? You’re weird” he plainly said.
“Weird~?” I looked at him
“Just joking~” he answered immediately.
After the movie, we went to a family restaurant. Hikaru, again, sat beside me and was showing the menu on my face like an excited kid. I moved away slightly as he boasts that the foods there are great. And that was when we met and started hanging out during our free time but still, I’m not used to guys looming around me at all because it makes my heart confuse if he’s courting me or not. I prefer guys who confess first before courting or getting close to me. Unlike Dai-chan, we’re friends since diapers so I’m already comfortable with him. Just like I said, I never had boyfriends from the past although there are guys who confessed to me but I rejected them because they are not my type.
We’re in the back garden of the university, the five of us is complete. There are volleyball girls who passed by and the guys with me never failed to take the nice sight of their bodies.
“Ne, Kei-chan. Isn’t she cute?” Daiki eyed the one who leads the girls.
“Ah, yeah. I think she’s the captain, nice legs too” I answered then I went back to reading my book.
“Wow, nice comment from a girl. It’s rare for a girl to compliment another” Kota commented and whistled when the girls saw us.
“Hey girls~” Hikaru smiled at them
“You’re even helping Daiki chose a girlfriend, aren’t you?” Yuya asked.
“Well, yeah. Most of the time” I answered plainly.
“Bestfriend’s view is important! And it’s good if the girlfriend is in good terms with the bestfriend, it’s like a parent-consultation yo!” Daiki said
“Hikaru, they’ll melt if you stare too much” Kota giggled and told him.
“Ah, iya~ Kei, don’t believe him, okay?” Hikaru shook his head and snuggled closer to me and lays his head on my lap.
“What the?”
“What?’
“Argh! See you guys around!” I stood and his head hit the bench. I walked away feeling annoyed with that scene.
“How could he? He’s not even courting me!” I cursed him while walking.
“Kei-chan! Wait up” Daiki followed me so I stop on my track.
“What?!”
“Woah~ Are you having your period today?”
“Why?”
“Because you’re so grumpy just now…” Daiki worriedly put his hand on my shoulder and I relaxed.
“Sorry” I sighed.
“Kei!” I rolled my eyes when Hikaru followed us together with Kota and Yuya.
“Did I make you mad?” he bluntly asked.
“Isn’t it obvious?!” I asked him furiously while he was dumbfounded.
“Why are you getting so close to me? You’re not even courting me” I explained and I realized what I just said. I covered my mouth immediately and turn around. I grabbed Daiki and walked fast. The 3 guys are left silent.
“Hikaru, she’s right. You stick to her too much that made her confuse” Kota patted his shoulder.
“Yeah, men! Do you like her or something?” Yuya added.
“You know me guys, I’m just like this towards girls. Girls should always be cared for and be protected, right?”
“But I think, it’s too much” Kota commented
“You know she hasn’t experienced having a boyfriend yet so I think you confused her by being close to her” Yuya leaned on his shoulder with his elbow.
“You think so?” the two nodded.
“You should apologize and tell her what you really feel” Kota suggested, Hikaru looked at him in realization.
“If you like her, confess formally” Yuya also suggested. Hikaru just nod while thinking.
After class, Hikaru mailed me to meet him at our usual place at a café.
“Sorry I’m late” he apologized then sat across me. I nodded and stayed silent.
“Sorry about a while ago”
“No, it’s just me. Forget what I said back then” I sighed before answering.
“I have an idea! You didn’t have any boyfriend yet, right?” I nod shyly.
“Then, let’s have a date! I can teach you how to act during a date. So I hope I’ll make it up to you for what I did back then” he spoke sadly at the end.
Not bad, atleast I won’t get embarrassed if I do something stupid during a date.
“Hmm… okay” I answered plainly.
“Just that, it’s your treat then” I added
“No problem! So tomorrow 10am at the Ocean Aquarium entrance then” he snapped his fingers
“Un! Wakatta” I gave him thumbs up and smiled at him but he looked away with a serious face.
The date…
“Let’s go?” he held my hand but I quickly pulled out.
“What’s up?”
“I… I’m not used to someone holding my hand” I shyly said
“What? How will you call it a date if you don’t want it?” he raised a brow
“I… ahm… just hold onto your arm” I nervously answered.
“Okay~?”
“But if I feel like it, I’ll hold on to your hand atleast…” I awkwardly said while we were walking. I could feel my face burning hot when people stared at us so I let go of his arm.
“People are staring…” I looked down embarrassedly.
“Daijobu, they’ll think we’re a couple anyway” upon hearing that, my eyes widen and blushed even more. He gestured me to cling to his arm again so I did.
“Uwaah! So cool!” I let go of his arm and went near the glass when I saw the fishes.
“Actually, in this kind of situation, girls should say, ‘Kawai~’…” he started the lesson
“But, I’m not that girly you know!” I snubbed at him but he chuckled.
I looked at every glass windows and forgot that I’m with Hikaru. He just follow me where I go.
“I’m not a guardian to look after you, you know~” he faked wine and stood beside me as I took a picture of a blowfish with my phone.
“Mrs. Puff~” I giggled and showed him the picture.
“Ah, Spongebob. You’re not girly but you like anime and cartoons huh” he commented.
“What’s wrong with that?” I pouted
“You’re really weird~” he laughed but I punched his chest lightly.
“I’m not weird!” but he looked at my fist on his chest and he froze.
“Hikaru?” I snapped my fingers on his face
“Eh? Ah, ma! Let’s get something to eat” he shook his head and started walking.
“What’s wrong with him?” I tilted my head and blinked curiously.
We went to Mc Donald’s and asked me what to order.
“Ahm, spaghetti, large fries, chicken-fillet burger, monster float and… nuggets!” I said as I looked at the menu on the counter.
“Don’t forget yours, okay? I’ll go find a table over there” I smiled at him and left.
“Eh??? That’s only for herself? Geez, she’s such a glutton” he laughed a little.
After a few minutes, I saw him and waved at him. He placed the tray on our table and let out a sigh.
“Doushita no?” I asked while I took a fries and munch on it.
“You really eat a lot, ne? But why are you so skinny?” he took a burger and bites on it.
“I don’t know either, even though I eat a lot, I never get fat. Must be a curse or something~” I giggled.
“Yeah, lucky girl” he agreed. I opened the nuggets box and forked one.
“Ne, during a date, you should be lovey dovey” he suddenly said while I choke slightly so I grabbed my monster float and sipped on it.
“Seriously?” he nods and I sighed.
“Ja, ahm… here!” I think first before I took a fries string and put it near his mouth. He ate it and smiled.
“I want a nugget” he said so I forked one and did it again.
“I want spaghetti” I feed him
“I want…” he was about to command again when I cut his words.
“Chotto matte! You just wanted to eat my food, don’t you?” I suspected him.
“Eh? It’s just a lovey dovey thing, ‘ya know!” he happily said but I whacked his head.
“Ittai!”
“You’re abusing too much, I want to eat now!” I said and focused on eating but I heard he chuckled.
“What?” I asked while I used a tissue.
“Taku… you’re such a kid” he took a tissue and wiped the side of my lips. I froze when he leaned closer and do that. I touched my cheek and shook my head.
“Haha” he laughed then bites on his burger.
“Haha. Look who’s talking~” I laughed at him when I saw a mayonnaise stuck on his nose. He tried to wipe it but failed.
“Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. And you call yourself an adult?” I reached for him to wipe it.
“There, you’re such a kid” I mimicked him but he holds my wrist and we stared to each other. It’s like he’s reading what’s on my mind so I looked away and pulled my wrist back.
After eating, Kota called his phone and went to answer it at the terrace while I went to the ladies’ room for awhile.
“Ah, gomen. Kota called, we have a sudden project to do” he explained when I returned in the terrace of the Ocean Aquarium.
“Um! Ii yo… I’ll be going first then” I bit my lower lip and turned around to left but he grabbed my hand. I look at his hand then to him. It looks like he wanted to say something but he shook his head.
“Be careful on your way home” he reminded me and let go of my hand. I just nod and went home thinking about the expression of his face.
“He’s kinda weird today…” I mumbled as I jumped to my bed and buried my face on my pillow.
Haah… it’s my first date but not a real one though. But I wish it was real… Wait! Why am I thinking this way? And why is my heart beating so fast? Ah… it must be because it’s my first time experiencing this. I’m a normal girl after all, its fine for me to feel this. Yup! Ah huh!
Monday came and Hikaru came to my class when the professor left. He sat beside me as I put my things on my bag.
“Come on! Let’s eat lunch!” he cheerfully said
“Ah, okay. Where are the others by the way?” I stood and he followed.
“I don’t know” he plainly answered while putting his hands on his pocket as we walk out.
“What do you mean you don’t know?” I raised a brow
“I left Kota and Yuya when the class ended and I don’t know about Daiki” he took my bag and carried it
“Why being a gentleman all of a sudden?” I chuckled
“Nothing, it’s normal you know! And as if you’re saying I’m not!” he sulked a little and pout.
“You’re not cute at all, okay? So stop acting like a sulking child” his face became normal again when I said that and we walked towards a restaurant in front of the university. We sat at the far end while he sat across me. He stared at me while his hand on his chin as if thinking something.
“What?” I chuckled but my phone rang.
“Moshi moshi? Ah, Dai-chan” I looked at him and he facepalmed.
“Where the hell are you? You didn’t wait for me?” Daiki was kinda angry
“At the restaurant in front of the university, Hikaru went to my class and dragged me here”
“Mou~ Is he taking you away from me now? Argh!” he sounded like a sulking child
“Just go here, we’ll be waiting and Kota…” I chuckled even more but I saw Kota and Yuya approaching us and I noticed Hikaru bumped his head on the table as he saw the two.
“Ah, Kota and Yuya said they’ll be looking for Hikaru” Daiki said
“Um! They’re here already, come here now!” I said while smiling.
“Okay, I’ll be there in a blink of an eye!”
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t make us wait ‘coz we’re hungry” I warned him so I hanged up.
Yuya sat beside me while Kota sat beside Hikaru. Kota called the waiter to order when Daiki arrived and sat between me and Hikaru. I ordered lasagna and a whole pizza. They looked at me with curious eyes.
“It’s for everyone, my treat!” I smiled at them but I noticed that Hikaru covered his mouth while blushing.
“Wow! For the first time…” Kota commented
“Yeah, you should treat us more often Kei” Yuya added.
“Hey! No abusing my bestfriend!” Daiki faked whine.
When the foods arrived with the pizza, everyone took a slice and much on it.
“Ah, Kei…” Hikaru was about to lean forward to wipe something on my face when Daiki wiped it first.
“You should be aware about your face especially when you’re with guys like us” Daiki commented. Hikaru lean back and sighed quietly. I noticed how Hikaru become quiet during our lunch while we tell funny stories.
After class that day, the rain started to pour hard. They went to my class to fetch me.
“Ah! Yabai! I forgot to research something in the library. You guys go ahead, it might took hours to finish it” I stood and carried my things and ran towards the library. They just nodded. Hikaru is still silent.
“See you tomorrow, Kei-chan!” I heard Daiki said as I ran.
After 2 hours, I finished my work, I packed my things and went to the lobby.
“Yabai! The rain didn’t stop at all… Wait…” I looked for my umbrella on my bag but it wasn’t there.
“Oh great! I left mine at home” I sighed
“Should we go home now?” Hikaru appeared beside me with an umbrella on hand.
“You’re still here?” I blinked at him
“I figured out you might have forgotten your umbrella so I waited for you” he smiled at me and I felt a kyun to my heart.
We started walking as we squeezed in to his umbrella.
“You can grab on to my arm so that we can prevent ourselves from being wet from the rain” he said and I did.
What is this? Why do I feel awkward again? It’s just the two of us again so I think that’s why? Ahh! Wakaranai!
“Are you cold?” he suddenly asked then I looked at my hand, I was shivering.
“We should stay here for a bit” he pulled me towards a waiting shed. He took out his jacket and placed it on my body.
“You’re shivering, you should warm your body up a little” he smiled widely at me to cheer me up and I blush even more.
“A-rigatou”
“Eh? Are you alright? You’re so red…” he cupped my face.
Oh my gosh! I’m blushing too hard!
“Iya… Daijobu…” I looked away but his hand caressed my face and I can feel his breath on my face as his face got closer to mine. When I looked at him, his lips touched mine. he pulled away immediately and stared in to my eyes deeply.
“Kei, I like you” he confessed as I was left dumbfounded with that.
“You’re joking right?” I punched him lightly on his chest but he caught it. He placed my hand on his heart and I can feel his heart beating fast.
“Can you feel it? It only means one thing, I love you” he mumbled as I can feel the weight of his stares.
Now, that’s a really different story from liking a person. Love? He said he loves me? For real? What should I do?
I looked away and pulled my hand away from his chest. I shook my head.
“Like I told you before, forget what I just said back then” I said
“No, you want me to confess my feelings before I court you, right? That’s why I’m saying this now” he cupped my face again but this time, I am the one who leaned closer and kissed him.
“I… love you too” I shyly mumbled as I caress his face. He smiled and hugged me. The rain started to stop so we continued walking while hand in hand.
